چکیده

The BDI model of agency is a well studied concept in Formal Logic for Rational Agents, mainly through the BDICTL [7] and KARO [7] logical frameworks. The former is based on the Branching Time Logic CTL [3], whereas the latter in based on Dynamic Logic [4]. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but the union of some properties of both frameworks provide, in our opinion, all the formal tools that we need to model the more recently introduced concept of Artificial Emotion within the BDI model [2]. In this work we propose an extension to the BDICTL so its syntax and semantics to support reasoning about Artificial Emotions. We named this extension BDIE−LA logic. More particularly, we want to reason about the role of Artificial Emotions in BDI agents in a logical point of view, and for that we based the development of BDIE−LA in the ideas put forward in [2, 5]. Based on these ideas, we defined in BDIE−LA modal operators for modelling action-execution, capabilities (abstract plans of action) and resources (means to turn capabilities in executable actions). Moreover, we also defined modal operators for Artificial Emotions, in the same level of the BDI modal operators. With all these modal tools at hand, our main goal is to formally model two fundamental aspects of Artificial Emotions: their triggering and their influence in agents behaviour. Since the formal definition of Artificial Emotion and behavioural concepts are already present in the core of BDIE−LA, we define the introduced aspects through establishing some interactions between the modal operators representing Artificial Emotions and the ones representing BDI, actions, capabilities and resources.

Towards Socially Sophisticated BDI Agents

We present an approach to social reasoning that integrates prior work on norms and obligations with the BDI approach to agent architectures. Norms and obligations can be used to increase the eficiency of agent reasoning, and their explicit representation supports reasoning about a wide range of behaviour types in a single framework. We propose a modified BDI interpreter loop that takes norms an...

Modelling Emotional BDI Agents

Emotional-BDI agents are agents whose behaviour is guided not only by beliefs, desires and intentions, but also by the role of emotions in reasoning and decision-making. In this paper we introduce the logic EBDI for specifying Emotional-BDI agents in general and a special kind of Emotional-BDI agent under the effect of fear. The focus of this work is in the expressiveness of EBDI and on using i...

Reasoning about BDI Agents from a Programming Languages Perspective

In this paper, we summarize an approach to reasoning about a class of BDI agent architectures based on PRS. The theory is formalized using a logic, Agent Dynamic Logic (ADL), that combines elements from Computation Tree Logic, Propositional Dynamic Logic and Rao and Georgeff’s BDI Logic. The motivation of this work is to develop a logical framework that is at once rigorous in providing formal n...

Practical Social Reasoning Systems

The Belief-Desire-Intention (BDI) model of rational agency provides an abstract architecture for practical reasoning systems and is today regarded as one of the key contributions of multiagent systems research to AI. So far, however, a similar model for practical social reasoning systems that is generic enough to be used as a unifying framework for the diverse methods used to manage the interac...

PRACTIONIST: a New Framework for BDI Agents

In this paper, we present PRACTIONIST (PRACTIcal reasONIng sySTem), a new framework built on the Bratman’s theory of practical reasoning to support the development of BDI agents in Java (using JADE) with a Prolog belief base. We aims at reducing the gap between the expressive power of the BDI model and the difficulty of efficiently implementing its features. In PRACTIONIST we adopt a goal-orien...
